A Motus Theater Art Opening and Community Civic Dialogue with the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office

  • Canyon Theater and Gallery at the Boulder Public Library 1000 Canyon, Boulder Canyon Drive Boulder, CO, 80302 United States (map)

On Saturday, August 9th Motus Theater opens an exhibit engaging visitors with art that centers the stories of community members with DACA through a variety of mediums, including photography and illustrations. At a time when people who are undocumented are often demonized as “other” for political gain, this exhibition invites viewers to look past our differences and find our shared humanity.

In addition to illustrations by Sebastián Sifuentes in collaboration with Kirsten Wilson, and mural images by Edica Pacha, viewers will see a never before exhibited selection of photographs from Motus Theater’s landmark performance Law Enforcement Leaders Read DREAMer Stories (2017).

After the gallery opening from 5:30pm-7pm, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office will hold an information session aimed at sharing information regarding the Immigrant Protection Initiatives in Boulder County and a Know Your Rights document so people are aware what protections our laws do (and do not) provide to people without documentation status in regards to traffic stops, crime victims, jails, detainers, criminal convictions, courthouses, and probation offices.

As part of this information session from 7pm-8pm, the Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty and former Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle will co-read the autobiographical story of a Motus monologist with Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals (DACA) about the challenges he and his family face (This event will be videotaped and posted on the website of the District Attorney’s Office to provide ongoing access on immigrant protections and protocols).

Regardless of individual beliefs about immigration policy, visitors will learn more about the impact of these policies on the lives of undocumented families.
